Le refroidisseur à air est principalement composé d'un compresseur, d'un condenseur, d'un filtre, d'un détendeur, d'un évaporateur, d'un filtre à air et d'un ventilateur. Le réfrigérant liquide entre dans l'évaporateur après avoir été étranglé par le détendeur, où il s'évapore et absorbe la chaleur de l'air refroidi, puis inhalé par le compresseur via le tuyau de retour, vapeur surchauffée qui est comprimée pour devenir haute température et haute pression, refroidie par l'air extérieur après être entré dans le condenseur, puis acheminé vers le détendeur à travers un filtre sec, passant au cycle suivant. Ce cycle continu refroidira la pièce et maintiendra la bonne température de climatisation.
