Aperçu de l'exposition

Indonesia, the fourth most populous country in the world (around 250 million), has abundant natural resources a relatively young labour force, and maintains an economical growth rate of 5.2%. The Indonesian government expects to maintain a stable yearly growth rate of more than 5% for the foreseeable future. With labour costs in China rising many international companies have turned to invest in the ASEAN countries, the largest of these being Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. With Indonesia's huge population this also brings unlimited potential for their domestic market, so it’s certainly an economy and a country that is on the rise.

This year’s Plastics and Rubber Indonesia 2016 (hereinafter referred to as Indonesia 2016), in addition to plastic-based machinery, also combined beverage related machinery. This is mainly because Indonesia's own consumer market still caters for life’s necessities. This means that at the fair show food-related plastic and rubber packaging machinery still accounted for a considerable proportion of demand. Following the triennial K-show, the number of companies that allocated funds towards Indonesia 2016 was significantly reduced in comparison to previous years. This was also reflected in the number of product categories represented at the show and even the number of Taiwanese companies that decided to attend the show was down on last year.

The feeling around the fair show is that this year was not as good as in previous years, but with the completion of the subway system planned in time for Indonesia 2017, and no K-Show to contend with, most exhibitors have high hopes for next year’s edition.

There have been many people worried that the recent turmoil around the world would bring adverse events to Indonesia, but this has not been the case. Indonesia now has the largest event held in South East Asia, and even smaller categories in the industry such as beverages and plastic packaging now have their own pavilions. This means that buyers can spend less time wondering around non related booths and get straight to the products that they are looking for.

There have been a particularly large amount of exhibitions this year, and with companies trying out different events all over the world, the attendance from Taiwanese companies has been a bit lower than previous years. The continued depreciation of the Indonesian rupiah in recent years has had a negative effect on the imports into Indonesia, but this also brings opportunities for Indonesian companies who export and foreign exhibitors who have a good competitive advantage can use this to their benefit.
