Taiwan as the Asian base for the future of plastics machinery automation

Targeting the latest industrial trend in the plastic sector

This year, Taipei PLAS once again sets its tone targeting on “automation in the plastic industry”. Near 400 exhibitors will be showcasing their equipment innovations.

Most of the Taiwan plastics machinery manufacturers have accumulated solid technique in manufacturing in the past few decades. It is noticeable that a growing number of smart software, panels and robotic arms are there to assist the productions in the factories. A series of cutting-edge plastics machine tools will be presented at Taipei PLAS 2016 - including robotics, auxiliary equipment, peripheral equipment, smart transition system, programming controller and other automatic systems for improved manufacturing. The machine/system builders will demonstrate the applications of these machineries in various industries such as household use, electronics, medical, information and packaging.

Taiwan becoming the automation powerhouse for Asian plastic industry

In response to the trend of automation in the plastic industry, Taiwan Plastics industry development center (PIDC) is actively forging cooperation plans with worldwide organizations. Last year, PIDC signed a project with Energid Technologies (a global leader of robotics design) to target partnership developments in 3D printing, personnel training schemes as well as the industry 4.0 frameworks regarding Taiwan's plastics industry. Energid’s financial director Mr. James Bacon stated the crucial role of Taiwan's market, and sees it as the departing center for a large scale plastics industrial upgrade in Asia. The company will collaborate with Taiwan's machine builder closely to pursue the USD 10billion market potential of automation in Asian plastics industry.

Taiwan's plastics industry was once the greatest pillars in creating its economic miracle. Although challenges such as low-birth rate and labor shortage lay ahead, the plastic industry in Taiwan does not fade in the new era. It merely has to adapt itself into a greener and more efficient industry to cope with some essential changes of our environment. Taiwan is a technological island, with the know-how and resources available, there are immeasurable potential for Taiwan to grab the advancements in the plastics industry so to become the automation powerhouse of Asian plastics technology.
